Activating The Vagus Nerve with Yogic Breathing

“The Ocean Breath” is a yogic breathing method created by Carla Tara and transmitted to Devi Ward Erickson in 2009.

This yogic breathing method activates the ventral vagal pathway by incorporating the 5 ventral vagal “cues”, which are:

  • Deep Breathing
  • Relaxed facial features
  • Soothing sounds in the inner ear
  • Ingesting

And, when practicing the Ocean Breath with another person, or in front of a mirror, direct and prolonged eye contact.

By actively working with the ventral vagal pathway, this yogic breathing method supports deep healing of the ANS and the somatic release of trauma, as seen in the video above.

Though tears are often shed in this process, many practitioners report a sense of ease and calm during and throughout the process.

Our students and practitioners have noticed the following benefits from using The Ocean Breath as taught by Authentic Tantra:

  • Alleviating both acute and chronic anxiety
  • Establishing inner peace and self-connection
  • The release of long held emotions, trauma, and core wounds
  •  Expansion of pleasure and orgasmic ability
  • Generating feelings of somatic “Bliss”

Activating the ventral vagal pathway has been shown to:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Boost Immunity
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Alleviate anxiety and depression
  • Improve mental health
  • Improve sexual functioning

“The Ocean Breath” is a core component of the Authentic Tantra Modality and is taught in all of our in-person and online Tantra coaching programs and events.
