“The Ocean Breath” is a yogic breathing method created by Carla Tara and transmitted to Devi Ward Erickson in 2009.
This yogic breathing method activates the ventral vagal pathway by incorporating the 5 ventral vagal “cues”, which are:
And, when practicing the Ocean Breath with another person, or in front of a mirror, direct and prolonged eye contact.
By actively working with the ventral vagal pathway, this yogic breathing method supports deep healing of the ANS and the somatic release of trauma, as seen in the video above.
Though tears are often shed in this process, many practitioners report a sense of ease and calm during and throughout the process.
